We also celebrated College Colors Day at our CMC offices last Friday. If you had not heard about it, CCD 2010 is a national way of kicking off game day spirit by celebrating one’s alma mater. For the most part in Gainesville it was a sea of Orange and Blue (we’re a little biased) but our Orlando properties evened things out. Here’s a shot of our staff at Hunter’s Crossing - Gainesville.

We mentioned the Ls1 party taking place tomorrow, but there is more happening on the fashion homefront in Gainesville, notably Fashion’s Night Out at Dahlia Boutique in Thornebrook Plaza. Fashion’s Night Out is a global effort from New York to Mumbai but you can get a small sample of the action here in Gainesville with our local boutiques, the action starts worldwide this Friday September 10th!

We met Haydée M. Santana during the Spring 2010 season of Gainesville Fashion Week explaining her Tampa based e-business called LocalShops1.com that connects local businesses with shoppers seeking great deals. Now, LS1 and Haydée are headed to Gainesville and this Wednesday Sept 8th you can get the cards for free and learn more about LS1 at the LS1 Gainesville Launch Party from 6-8 p.m. at 101 Downtown in Union Street Station. The event is free.

We had such an overwhelming turnout as residents came out to mix with their new neighbors and friends. We held a raffle for “Tiki Off My Rent” - a rent coupon, everyone got liei’d upon arrival and we made these great “Freebie in a Bottle” giveaways. Originally we wanted to hold a scavenger hunt for our Little Lake Crossers but the weather was too gloomy. However, that didn’t stop the party from rocking until the sun went down. And really, we are in no place to scoff. It’s not like we dug up some rare artifact from the revered era known as the 80s. Decades to come our kids will probably be picking up books, jumpdrives…or something even cooler saying, “Gosh! Social Media - what was that. Soo 2000’s!”. Who knows what can happen over the next decade, but we still wanted to share this with you because well…it’s entertaining. At least it gave us a good break from streaming lanterns.

That’s fine - what really stood out for us is that the University of Florida IS NOT even on WEintraub’s list for higher-learning, technology institutions…but Valencia CC is (one time for our Orlando/Winter Park properties and our VCC students!)

We’re GOING SOCIAL (again!). You’re likely reading this on Facebook, but for the shy few who have not sucummbed to our fun-loving ways, we created these groovy signs to ease them along. TEXT like “CMCapartments” to 32665 to like us and any of our properties on Facebook. We really like them, here they are on stakes but the design is very versatile so watch for a blue pop-up bubble near you. What do you think? Have you seen any similar signs around town?

We are welcoming new faces and returning friends to our properties this month. We headed out to student-friendly Spyglass over the weekend to bring you a first-hand glimpse of the action taking place during turns. We also caught up with one of our property managers Amy, who gave us tips on how to get your apartment back to rent-ready shape…and of course, avoid missing out on your security deposit reimbursement.

And just in case this hasn’t already crossed your mind, take a look at the checklist below. Depending on how many you can answer…you may have to revisit your front office.

MOVE - IN CHECKLIST
1. Check to see when the rent is due.
2. Find out where to go to pay your rent, who it should be given to, or where it should be sent.
3. What are the late charges for rent not paid on time? When do these charges begin?
5. When is the deposit returned?
6. How can you lose this deposit?
7. Is there a pet deposit? If so, how much is it? When can it get refunded? Can you get this deposit back if you no longer have your pet?
8. How soon after you move out is the deposit returned?
9. Can you have roommates and what is the building’s policy on adding someone to the lease if necessary?
10. What exactly does the rent include?
11. Does the rent include any utilities? If so which ones?
12. Is parking included in the apartment rental or is there an additional charge?
13. What repairs are covered within the lease? If something happens and repairs need to be made by building management, who needs to be called? Are there any charges for repairs not covered in the lease?
