Football, Fashion and Fall!

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

We’re back after a long holiday weekend - aren’t those the best? Not to mention the first weekend of college football and the first week of the fall fashion season. (We know…you’re thinking, “Where are they going with this? How are they tying in football and fashion?”. Just wait we’ll come full circle shortly).

We also celebrated College Colors Day at our CMC offices last Friday. If you had not heard about it, CCD 2010 is a national way of kicking off game day spirit by celebrating one’s alma mater. For the most part in Gainesville it was a sea of Orange and Blue (we’re a little biased) but our Orlando properties evened things out. Here’s a shot of our staff at Hunter’s Crossing - Gainesville.

Erica, Jared, Heather and Stephanie in the swing of things.

This brings us back to fashion. Last week, we were invited to check out the new line of dresses from Mesh Boutique. Owner, Muna called us as she was unpacking boxes to get a first glimpse of the goodies in great game day colors just in time for kick off. Check out the video on CMC-TV now!

We mentioned the Ls1 party taking place tomorrow, but there is more happening on the fashion homefront in Gainesville, notably Fashion’s Night Out at Dahlia Boutique in Thornebrook Plaza. Fashion’s Night Out is a global effort from New York to Mumbai but you can get a small sample of the action here in Gainesville with our local boutiques, the action starts worldwide this Friday September 10th!

Deal-seeking shoppers and local, booming business - yes that sounds like a great idea!

Get $50 for referring a friend!

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

We’ve heard this around the block, but with The Gator Nation & Saints back in full swing next week - with both UF and SFC starting their Fall 2010 semesters - $50 extra dollars is nothing to sneeze at. It could buy…one textbook?! But seriously, the team at Arbor Apartments is running a promotion.

Refer a friend to sign a lease at Arbor and get $50 off your rent. Couldn’t hurt to try right? Happy textbook hunting!

For our residents in the Southwest Gainesville properties along SW 62nd Blvd, don’t forget about the new RTS route 23 from the Oaks Mall to Santa Fe College via Fort Clarke.

Come one, come all to the Lake Crossing Cookout!

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

(We used the “Get Liei-ed” line a few months ago at Spyglass Apartments). This year we’re happy to announce our partnership with Beef O’Brady’s for the 3rd Annual Lake Crossing Luau. We’re taking more of a cookout theme this year and filling the patio with American favorites! Lake Crossing manager, Corey, has promised us the hits from his personal music collection….but we have a bad feeling it will be mostly New Edition or NKOTB but we’ll see. All Lake Crossing residents and friends are welcome, including our little Lake Crossers as this will be a family affair.

From CMC Blog Posts

This takes place poolside at Lake Crossing, Friday August 27th from 6:30p.m. and while all the planning is done, we’re taking suggestions for some great games. Anyone have any ideas?
Speaking of ideas - did we mention we’re submitting a float design to this year’s University of Florida Homecoming Parade? Any crafty residents out there - not the glue gun kind but power tools? Seriously.

Rental Lingo - The Need To Know’s

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

We thought in the spirit of moving season a little apartment terminology would go a long way. These definitions from Apartments.com might give you some more insight on what to expect…well, when expecting a new place. Can you think of any we missed?

From Hunter's Crossing Floorplans

Alcove: A small, separate space in an apartment which can house a kitchen or bedroom arrangement.

Apartment: A rented space in either a building, house or flat. Apartments are rented with a lease, a legal contract stating the terms of the rental.

Condominium: A space that is purchased in a building, including an apartment and a percentage of the common living space in the building.

Condominium Lease: Similar to a rental lease, except the apartment has a private owner. This type of lease may have more negotiable terms as only one owner is involved.

Furnished Unit: An apartment that comes fully equipped with furniture and amenities. These units may be available for either a short- or long-term lease.

Loft: A big, open space that has been converted into an apartment. Because of their popularity, loft-style apartments are now being built from the ground up. Their high ceilings and large windows are ideal for those who like to throw parties or need extra space.

One-bedroom: An apartment that includes a bedroom, kitchen, bathroom and living area. A one-bedroom with a separate room not as big as the bedroom may be listed as a 1.5 bedroom, a junior four (four rooms), a flex two or a convertible two (two bedrooms).

Rental Lease: A legal document stating the dates, price, rules and other stipulations for the rental agreement between an individual and a management company or landlord. Once signed, they are hard to break unless you have a serious problem as outlined in the document.

Studio or Efficiency: A one-room apartment with a separate bath. A studio may also have a separate kitchen area. Traditionally thought of as an artist’s space, the studio is usually a less expensive option and great for those who don’t need a big space.

Sub-lease: Taking over a lease in a co-operative or rental apartment from the current tenant. The sublet renter usually shares responsibility for the apartment with the main leaseholder.

Two-bedroom: An apartment with two bedrooms and typically four, five or six total rooms. The bedrooms may have exact layouts or may vary greatly in size. There may be one main bathroom or a master bedroom and bath with another bathroom near the central living area.

Walk-up building: Usually the least expensive type of housing, these are four- to five-story buildings often constructed as multi-family housing.

We borrowed that line from M.I.A but for those that don’t know corporate promotional material is called swag. The countdown is on! RTS plans route to SFC and GRA this fall!

Friday, July 16th, 2010

For those not too familiar with the acronyms, we mean Gainesville Regional Transport Service is creating a route to Santa Fe College and Gainesville Regional Airport this fall. We think it’s great news and a much needed service. For those headed to Santa Fe route 23 will run every 50 minutes from the Oaks Mall on Newberry Rd through Fort Clarke Blvd. to the college campus. Route 23 will begin on August 16th for Fall 2010 semester. RTS said in a release this route will run from 7:20 a.m to 3:40 p.m. at the Oaks Mall and 7:45 a.m. to 4:05 p.m. at Santa Fe, Monday through Friday.

From CMC Blog Posts

For those traveling out of town, you can opt out of parking your cars at the airport. Service will run from the University of Florida to Gainesville Regional Airport also starting on August 16th.
This will be a limited stop service running every hour on weekdays. RTS says service will be during the peak travel hours from 7:25 a.m. to 10:25 a.m., and then from 3:25 p.m. to 6:25 p.m.

For more details visit their website or pick up a copy of the new bus schedule at your CMC property office.
