March is National Women’s History Month and 2013’s theme is Women Inspiring Innovation Through Imagination: Celebrating Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics or STEM is a buzzword heard quite often these days. From the office of Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R) discussing the rise of STEM-related jobs in the state, to multiple campuses – from elementary to university level in Florida – who are allocating more funds with hopes of channeling students to these careers and especially right here in Gainesville, FL where a bio-tech, entrepreneurial, research-driven society is thriving.
Many women in North Central Florida are already part of the growing STEM field and some have chose to make our community their home. This is especially important to us at CMC – not just as a company invested in Gainesville’s growth and development, not just as a family owned and operated company that has been in this community since 1979 – but also as a company that was founded by and run by a female business leader for our entire tenure.
To honor Women’s History Month this March Contemporary Management Concepts has teamed up with the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce to highlight a few of these women. Each week we will feature a new individual and hope you’ll join us in learning more about this growing subsector of our community.
