Gossip’s new album, A Joyful Noise, proves to deviate in both sound and style from the songs that the trio band has previously produced.
Lead singer, Beth Ditto, ditched the indie punk-rock music style of her past albums for more mainstream, Madonna-inspired songs. Ditto teamed up with British music producer, Brian Higgins, (most known for producing albums and tracks from artists such as Girls Aloud, Sugababes and The Saturdays) to create this commercial pop music album. Higgins, who produces dance-inspired power pop albums, has done just that with A Joyful Noise.
This move toward mainstream, 80′s-esque pop music, however, may destroy the uniqueness that Gossip’s longtime fans originally saw in their old punk rock hits.
Hello the debut release from Karmin, is a great choice for many musical tastes. Whether you’re looking for a fast-paced rap track with sing-along parts, such as in their song Too Many Fish or a more feel-good song like Coming Up Strong Hello will not disappoint. Similar to Nicki Minaj’s singing style, Karmin’s track, I Told You So evokes a sense of girl power with singer Amy Heidmann’s surprising ability to rap.
This dance-floor music proves both catchy and upbeat; it shows that Karmin is following in the footsteps of other rap artists such as Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, and Missy Elliot, so be sure to check it out.
